PLEN-2: Signal Processing Bringing on Market Growth – its industrial successes and future expectations

Date: Wednesday, April 22, 08:00 - 09:00, Location: Plenary Hall

Presented by

Kazuo Murano, President, Fujitsu Laboratories Limited

Abstract

In the late 1970s, the speaker was personally leading the development of some of the first special-purpose DSP processors (so called "1st generation DSP"), at the then-remarkable processing speed of 10 MOPS. Since then, advances in Signal Processing devices have been spectacular, and processing speeds of around 10 GOPS are now commonplace. Years of algorithmic research together with progress in devices made it feasible to introduce various products and services into the market applying sophisticated signal processing technologies. This evolution of technologies fulfills our needs and brings on industrial market growth by drawing further desire and expectations.

In this talk, some notable industrial successes in Signal Processing will be presented, highlighting speech and video processing and its application to communication and broadcasting market. The critical research accomplishments behind these industrial successes will be examined, and then expectations from the industry for challenges towards future advanced human interface technologies will be discussed.
