Taiwan Handicraft Promotion Center
Established in 1957, the Taiwan Handicraft Promotion Center is a non-profit society-oriented organization dedicated to the development and promotion of the handicraft industry in Taiwan. The Chinese Handicraft Mart, an operation unit of the Taiwan Handicraft Promotion Center, provides a one-stop shopping environment. The largest of its kind, Chinese Handicraft Mart offers more than 40,000 items in art furniture, jewelries, home furnishings, and general gift items, as well as services in currency exchange, gift-wrapping, and shipping.
Yong-Kang Shopping District
If you want to experience all sorts of novelties in Taiwan but only have limited time, you definitely cannot miss the Yong-Kang shopping district, situated near (actually just two blocks away) “the lungs of Taipei”—Da-an Forest Park. The Yong-Kang shopping district is scattered with stores for clothes, shoes, and interesting antiques or souvenirs. Tired from shopping? No worries. The Yong-Kang shopping district provides you with various choices of mouth-watering cuisine. Din-tai-fung, famous for its steamed buns (aka shao long bao) and Chinese cuisine, is recommended by many magazines and travel guides. At Ice-Monster you can enjoy special Taiwanese-style ice cream—a plate of shaved ice with fresh seasonal fruits, among which mango shaved ice is the best-seller. In addition to Chinese cuisine, there is Taiwanese food (such as beef noodles, dumplings, etc.), Japanese food, Vietnamese food, pasta and light meals to choose from. The alleys near Yong-Kang street are scattered with not only coffee shops but also tea shops, some of which offer demonstrations of how to make Chinese tea. Featuring an assorted range of cuisines and shops, the Yong-Kang shopping district will certainly become a memorable experience during your stay in Taipei.
